Prepare to Be Inspired: Personal Design Time with a Design Consultant
Building a home is an extensive process. There are a multitude of decisions that must be made, from selecting your floorplan to financing options. But, one of the more exciting steps to the home building process is designing the interior of your home.
Dostie Homes offers Personal Design Time to each and every buyer. It is the distinguishing characteristic of Dostie Homes’ building process. You are able to enjoy the benefits of designing your home with a design consultant who will ensure your home is tailored to meet your specific lifestyle needs.
Learn more about how to prepare and what to expect from your Personal Design Time appointment.
Before most people even begin their home search, they often have a design wishlist. You may be old-school with magazine clippings in a notebook or you may take a more modern approach and pin your “dream home” home ideas to a board on Pinterest.
Whether you’re hoping for luxurious marble in the bathroom or detailed wainscoting in your dining space, your ideas can easily come to life with a new construction home.
Preparing for Your Appointment
After you’ve finalized your floorplan in the plan review appointment, you will be given a set of preview packets of design offerings that you can request pricing on before your time in the design studio. These packets will include some of the more costly selections like cabinets and flooring levels. It is recommended that you view your inspiration photos alongside your preview packet to gain a better understanding of what selections you would like to see in your new home.
Our design consultants encourage you to send inspiration pictures ahead of time so they can also prepare for the appointment in the design studio. This will allow the consultants time to create color combinations to match your desires. During your design appointment, you will be able to evaluate which selections will have the most impact with the help of a professional.
Determine a Budget
Because you will be armed with our pricing offerings ahead of time, this is an excellent opportunity to set your budget.
We recommend that you determine your “must-haves” and your “nice-to-haves” ahead of your design appointment. Determine the features that you can’t live without, which may be a large soaking tub or modern quartz countertops. And then determine the features you would like to see, if there’s room in the budget, like an outdoor summer kitchen or a pool.
Deciding on these components ahead of time will help your appointment run smoothly.
High-Quality Building Materials
If you’ve ever built a new home before, you might notice that there are certain materials that other builders consider an upgrade that Dostie Homes includes as a standard feature. We believe in building with only the highest-quality materials and finishes - that means granite or quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances and custom wood cabinetry are standard materials used in every Dostie Homes’ kitchen.
It isn’t necessary to spend a ton of money to have a well-designed space. Our design consultants are skilled in offering advice and selections that will make the most impact, even when budgets are limited. You may or may not have noticed, but every Dostie Homes model features one completely standard bathroom. We do this to show how budget-conscious buyers can achieve a beautiful space without spending a ton of money.
Your Design Studio Appointment
Now that you’ve spent hours on Pinterest, made your must-have list and reviewed pricing, the time has finally arrived to visit the design studio.
Most buyers receive 6 hours of Personal Design Time with a design consultant but this can vary by neighborhood. Many buyers experience “selection fatigue” after a few hours of decision making so we often split up the design time into two or three shorter visits. The downtime between appointments also allows buyers the time to evaluate the different options and feel comfortable and confident about their choices.
The first visit typically focuses on the exterior of the home, kitchen options, and common flooring. The second visit will cover the bathrooms, laundry room, interior paint, and any other areas we need selections for, like wet/dry bars, fireplaces, and built-ins.
After the visit(s) to the design studio, the design consultant will create tile details and order paint swatches so the buyers are able to touch and feel their selections.
Another Satisfied Homebuyer
We often receive reviews and compliments about our home building process. Meghan Haven, a satisfied homebuyer, speaks highly of the design process.
She said, “I came to my Personal Design Time appointment with my wish list and Pinterest favorites and was unsure where to start. My design consultant, Heather, guided me room by room with such patience. There were so many details to think about to keep the spaces cohesive and she talked through them in a way that I was never overwhelmed.
She was fantastic at helping me bring my Pinterest dreams to life while also keeping me grounded on what would work best in the real world. I especially appreciated my design consultant’s attention to detail to make sure that everything came together in our home, even though it was discussed many months before, during our design consultation.”
